Great Northwest Day at the Capitol Planning Begins

In communities and counties throughout northwest Missouri, preparations for the 2013 Great Northwest Day at the Capitol are in full swing.

County Coordinators for each of the 18 counties that comprise the northwest Missouri region are working with local citizens, councils, commissions and chambers to gather important legislative priorities. Once assembled, priorities will be narrowed down to the top 3-4 for the region and then presented to the Missouri Legislative body at the Great Northwest Day at the Capital event on February 5-6, 2013. Regional priorities from past years have included transportation and infrastructure funding, statewide 9-1-1, unfunded mandates, education, wastewater, assistance with a regional water coalition and workforce development.

At this annual event, northwest Missouri employs a unique regional, cooperative approach to communicate with the leadership in Jefferson City. With a delegation of over 350 northwest Missouri constituents, Great Northwest Day includes introductions to the House & Senate and a regional lunch, followed by an evening buffet with State legislators, department heads and elected officials. Showcasing the evening event are community and county booths emphasizing the regional priorities and promoting local attributes.

Great Northwest Day at the Capitol is a program of Leadership Northwest Missouri, as evidenced by its ability to encourage regional, constructive and positive conversations.

For more information about the event or how you can participate, contact Darrell Gardner at 376- 2350.
